DEDE is an African store in the city of Kamloops, the store has succeeded in providing necessary food resources for the black community in the city. DEDE is a very up to date store, the store doesn’t lack when it comes to providing all the adequate needs. It has been in the city for 4 years. This store has had a grate impact in the community. The function DEDE provides is not just providing food items, but it is helping to preserve the culture of the black community in the city. However, the need for another African store has been arisen question and opinion piece by the black community.
Olumide in responding to a question concerning Dede says that he envisions another African store complementing DEDE by the store specialising on those other African countries food item. According to Olumide, in the interview on DEDE, Olumide reveals that “ This will create a balance and less expectation on just DEDE as it won’t be the only African store supplying food items to the black community in the city”. From his perspective the call for another store may not be a competition for DEDE because the stores focus target will be different from DEDE. The store will most likely be for those from the other regions of the continent (Africa) and in the city they are not as much as the westerners. In Olumide responds to another question about the importance of having another stores, his responds it that its important the black community has another store because it creates room for equal treatment and favour amongst the people. The church usually has different occasions and sometimes different events come up so an additional African store will assist the current DEDE store by providing items for those other countries, with this the events will be more enjoyable and engaging. The presence of DEDE has done a lot and saved a lot of unconducive circumstance too. That is DEDEs presences has helped in times where there was an emergency event, DEDE has created less panic in the city when it comes to African food items. The implementation of another store will complement the current efforts of DEDE store. Introducing of another store will provide different cultural elements depending on the target audience. The store will promote music and language as music will be the warmer of the atmosphere of the store, and there means of selling will be the local language just to promote the other aspects of the culture for people who have no idea of the culture. This will be a medium for encouragement. Both stores can collaborate by interchanging goods between themselves to promote unity.
They can sell each others’ products in different seasons by interchanging items during different seasons of the year. This will not only promote unity, but it will promote love in the hole African community as people get to learn other countries system. The issue of distance too will be resolved as DEDE is only in north shore, so the siting of another store in downtown of the city will be a good location because it’s the central of the city. The challenges that may be faced with this is that there would be a competition though, but if they are collaborative enough this challenge won’t be an issue because they both have the same goal of making sure they provide service to the black community in Kamloops through selling food items and promoting the culture. Olumide was then asked if he opened a store what would be the unique element he would have. His responds was that he has no idea on how the business goes but he would just make sure that he implements collaboration and make sure the people are happy. He is a music person so he will promote music and regular festivals in the store area just to promote the culture.
In conclusion, DEDE has been a good sources of food items for the black community, but a collaboration with a new African store will provide a more effective service to the people. They will encourage unity, agreeability, and promote diversity in the city.
