Kamloops, BC – October 27th, 2023
The Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC has just opened its doors to the long-awaited High Performance Training Centre for its Wolfpack varsity athletes. With the TRU Men’s Soccer team coming off a national championship year in 2022, the Wolfpack athletic department is looking to take athletic performance to the next level for all its sports teams. As both the men’s and women’s soccer teams near the end of their respective seasons, both volleyball and basketball programs prepare for their upcoming seasons with access to their new facility.
After utilizing the weightlifting facility at the Tournament Capital Center for previous years, all Wolfpack athletes will have exclusive access to the new training centre where they will receive high level training programs and teaching from the head coach of Strength and Conditioning, Aaron Chew. “It’s been a long process to get this training centre completed,” says Aaron. “The athletes have been very patient and eager to get working in the facility, which I think will enhance overall strength and conditioning across all sports in the Wolfpack program.”
Gavin Reis, a member of the Wolfpack men’s basketball team, says his teammates as well as other members from Wolfpack teams are excited to have the new training facility. “I feel like we will have a greater opportunity to train at a higher level and volume than we have in previous years,” says Reis. “There are more lifting platforms, and we get to surround ourselves with the whole population of varsity athletes under one roof, so I think it will push every one of us to get better not just on our respective teams, but the whole athletic department as a whole.”
As the doors to the high-performance training centre open, the Thompson Rivers University sets its sights on a future filled with champions across all its Wolfpack teams, both in the classroom and on the field.
The training centre was built in the upper mezzanine of the old TRU gym across TRU Way and the Tournament Capital Center. Incorporated into the training area is a new track that spans about 70 feet, as well as nine lifting platforms, a customized dumbbell rack, and a garage that leads to an outdoor basketball court.
